Richton Park is made up of more than just homes and businesses. The village has a large number of churches, a number of Home Owner Associations, a Merchants Chamber and a large group of volunteers that man many village committees. People helping people. There's a lot going on in Richton Park. Check out the Richton Park Community Relation's website.

Here are some interesting facts about Richton Park:

  • Incorporated in 1927 with a population of 50, Richton Park now has over 13,000 residents
  • The Sauk Trail was used by the Sauk Indian Tribe to travel between sacred sites and extended all the way from the Mississippi River to Ottawa, Canada!
  • Before the Civil War Richton Park was part of the Underground Railroad helping slaves reach their freedom in Canada
  • The entire area of Richton Park and Park Forest was initially known as Thorn Creek
  • The area was also known as Skunk Grove (Have you seen any skunks lately?)
